I have been wanting to do a Dutch Spiral for a while now and haven't gotten to it yet. Has anyone else ever done one? For those of you that haven't, but would like to here is your opportunity. I am starting mine in the morning. No deadline at all if you want to participate. When you have done your first one however, please reply here and include your image. Awesome! EDIT: I just tried this and it is fabulous and makes some very sweet earrings!!! I will have to redo what I have done, but all in the name of learning and took me no time at all!! This could have variations as well with Swars and stuff!! It is the technique I was wanting to learn...fun, fun!!!! *Happy Dance*

I've also been wanting to do one, I've already got the material. So I think this will jump to the top of my beading projects and then I'll post the result

I'm up for it! I did a simple one with bugle and seeds to have a go and have thought about doing one using more beads...At the moment though I'm doing a zulu Flowerette bracelet!! LOL

I was a little intimidated by how complicated the Dutch spiral looks - after all, I'm still trying to master the peyote stitch.

But I found a very simple diagram and instruction for a spiral rope in Carol Wilcox Wells' book The Art & Elegance of Beadweaving, which I just happen to have out on loan from the library, and I couldn't believe how easy it is! Works up fast and is different from anything I've done before.

Wish I had a digital camera so I could show you the bracelet I did. It's just blue and green size 11 seeds but it's cute.

Now I'm hooked and ready to try one of the patterns in the links you gave. Thanks Christina for this no-pressure challenge and for leading me to something I normally wouldn't have even tried.

Your Dutch Spiral is lovely! I don't think we can be doing the same pattern...mine looks a loopy mess! I'll persevere with it - surely it can only get better!

It will have different results depending on the beads you use. I actually wanted mine to look loopier than it did. Mine looks like a regular spiral more than a Dutch. What size beads are you using? I used 3MM fire polish, 8's and 2 Jap 11's and 1 Czech 11.

I'm using Beading Banshees pattern as my guide so I'm using mainly size 11 seed beads but my loop is 20 beads and I'm really not keen on the effect. I've been looking at other beads this morning and might try again using a variety of beads instead. btw how many beads did you have in your loopy bit?

Regardless of whether I finish this one or not I'll take a photo of it.

I have tried a couple of different patterns now and have decided Dutch Spiral isn't for me! The photo shows my various attempts...the green and gold bugle bracelet is an old one I made. The turquoise and the loopy mess are based on Beading Banshees pattern and the purple one is from instructions in BWG bracelet book.

OMG!! You will admit NOTHING!!!! Those are fabulous!!!! All of them!! Finish, finish!!! See I love the loopy look alot! What I wanted mine to be, but I like mine anyway too. My series went from 3 to 10 and back. I am now going to my couch to make one with longer loopier series!!!! They really are beauitful and you should finish!

Wow! I really love the second and the fourth spirals! I would hardly call that being defeated, lol. I am only now learning how to do peyote stitch, but I look forward to learning how to make a dutch spiral, if it will turn out like those, for me. As soon as I finish my contest entry to http://www.flickr.com/groups/winter08 and get my drawings for my friend done, I'll have to try this. (Sorry I haven't offered the contest link sooner. I haven't been online much recently and the last time I was on, I couldn't find the link )

That is just beautiful!! It looks like you used the iris colors too?? The centerpiece is fantastic! Nice work!
