Sewing Your Seeds

This may seem a newbie question, and in a way it is. So I'm asking the experts

In all my necklaces (until now) I've used a strong cotton thread I had at home, and it worked pretty fine. I was told that C-Lon is a good thread, so I ordered a black bobbin of it and I'm satisfied with it, it "behaves" so well.

The thing is: I hate doing knots. On the other hand, working with a giant length of thread is not easy, so sometimes knots are unavoidable... Do you make the knots with C-Lon the same way as with other threads? (I usually leave a certain length of the first thread, attach it to the second and then pass the "tail" of the first around the area of the knot for reinforcement)
Do you use any kind of glue in it?

Sorry if it seems a silly question, but I'm working on a heavy necklace and the last thing I want is to have an unexpected shower of Swarovskis and seed beads all around!

I use both Nymo or C-lon and I knot them when joining. I don't know what sort I use - I think it's a type of slip knot on the new end with the old thread through the loop. I don't use glue although I have used fray check to secure loose ends.

I'm a knot snob-I never use them.
I weave my thread a good bit into my project when I start and finish a thread and this works well.
are you waxing your thread?? b/c that prevents tangling, sounds like you might be having a bit of trouble with that.

I use a Weaver's Knot to join threads and make sure it is very secure before I put a bead on it. I do not use glue on it, although I know some who do. Really your preference. I make sure all my knots are buried behind beads, never showing. I try not to have to add thread, but it does happen. I do knot at the end of my work, half hitches placed strategically and hopefully 'pulled behind' a bead. I hear of many like Kim^Regal Beads that do not knot, I do not trust that for longevity sake.

Just my opinion..

I use fireline for my projects, so I can't speak for the C-lon, but when I add more thread I tie the two in an overhand knot, and then a surgeon's knot over that. It makes the knot very strong, and it is most definitely never coming out once it's tied! Then I weave the ends in and tie those around thread in the previous work for even more reenforcement.

Seeing as you hate knots this is probably overkill - but it does prevent the dreaded shower of crystals and seed beads : )

I try to use the longest thread I can manage, in order to avoid knots - I tend to be a bit paranoid about the overall resistance of the piece. But sometimes the thread turns out to be a little shorter than I need, and then comes the dreadful knot.

I don't wax the thread - never tried it, and never had major problems. Maybe I was supposed to, but I'm mainly a self-taught beader and never fully understood the how/when/why to do it. But I thought C-Lon was already pre-waxed...

I once thought of doing surgeon knots, in fact. Next time I'll get a pair of tweezers and try I also tie around the thread in the previous work, so I never had any problems - but on the other hand, I never made a necklace this heavy (and expensive as well).

bees wax will strengthen you thread by keeping it from fraying and getting taggled in knots-and no, it is not pre-waxed

I'm not keen on beeswax! I do use it but I find it sticky to use.

But how is it used? Applied with fingers, and that's it?

I was taught to run my length of thread through the wax.

Well, I think I'll give it a try and get some with my next bead order...

just fyi-i find that I like pure bees wax better, not "craft quality" or whatever you call it. I find it deluted (sp??) and that it does not work as well.
intead i buy from soap makers online-ebay. you can also find it at local farmers markets at the right time of the year.

Or maybe I can find it in those "natural" products stores... thank you for the tip!
