Sewing Your Seeds

I have been working on a bead embroidery cuff. This is my third restart and I think three's the charm. I have "Beading with Cabochons" and "The Art of Bead Embroidery" for guidance and inspiration. The first bracelet I started, I was unhappy with my color selection. The second one, I tried to peyote stitch around the cab. Using the Serafini instructions, you can back-stitch around the cab to where you began. Then "step up" and begin add-a-bead--skip-a-bead. Then when I come to the next row, it ends up being a flat row with the added bead fitting right between the added beads of the previous row. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.

Does this make sense? If anyone knows, please tell me . I am continuing with my present project. I'm pretty happy so far with the results.

ok...this sounds right for peyote...BUT if it is not coming in closer then you will continue to go 'up'. You have to do a decrease, like skipping a bead or using a smaller size bead like a 15 in between the added beads from the previous row. This will help it to 'come in'. Are you using 11's to start? and 15's to decrease?

Another thought, sometimes when I am doing sculptural peyote like this and I am using 11's, then go down to 15's, they seem to make the row 'even' across the top, so the next row would appear to have nothing to 'grab on to', just pretend that doesn't exist and next row around pick up the appropriate bead and you may have to go 'down in' with your needle to grab it, it will repond appropriately after that row.

Yes, after I posted, I really looked closer and realized that going from 11s to 15s made it appear the beads were even. Silly me. That's what I get for beading too late at night.
